How to Draw Perfect Ellipses

In this video, you will learn how to draw perfect ellipses. This method was developed by Vladimir London for students who take personal tutoring at Life Drawing Academy.

To begin with, draw a rectangle and divide it with two axes of symmetry into four quadrants. Divide each quadrant's side in half. Then, divide the medial halves into three equal parts. The middle point is marked here as "A" and the next point as "B". The same goes for the other sides. Now, we can connect "A" and "B" with straight lines. Do it for every quadrant. As you can see, a perfect ellipse can be inscribed into this rectangle, so it touches the "A-B" lines. Now, we can check this method using a square instead of a rectangle. Once again, this square is divided into four quadrants by two axes of symmetry, which go through the center of that square. Here are the "A-B" lines. And a perfect circle can be inscribed inside this geometry. This is because a circle is a fully symmetrical ellipse. This method can be used for drawing perfect ellipses inside of rectangles with any width-to-height ratios and angles. Here we go.
