How to avoid distorted symmetry in portraits
One of the mistakes amateur artists often make when drawing portraits is distorted symmetry. To keep symmetry in place, you can imagine a virtual vertical line that is located in the middle of a head. All facial features should be symmetrical along that line. In the three-quarters view, this line will be not straight, but curved. When drawing portraits in graphite pencil, you can actually draw the symmetry line to make your job easier. Because marks in inks are not erasable, I have to keep this imaginary line in mind.
