Drawing from Life: Michael's Progress at Life Drawing Academy
Michael, a student of the Life Drawing Academy Correspondence Course, created these graphite pencil sketches as part of his personal drawing curriculum.
In the Correspondence Course, students receive unlimited one-to-one tutoring while working through 100 structured drawing assignments. Each task is designed to build essential skills step by step, beginning with fundamental drawing principles and gradually progressing to more advanced subjects.
So far, Michael has studied how to handle a pencil, draw simple shapes and objects, render tonal values, apply the rules of linear and aerial perspective, and use the principles of constructive drawing. These skills provide an important foundation for more complex subjects.
One of his recent assignments involved drawing natural subjects from life. His graphite studies demonstrate noticeable progress in observation, proportion, tonal rendering, and confident pencil work.
Michael is now preparing to move on to more advanced topics, including anatomy for artists, portrait drawing, and figure drawing. With around sixty more assignments still ahead of him, there is plenty of opportunity to further develop his knowledge and practical drawing skills.
This is one of the main advantages of structured personal tutoring: every new task builds upon the knowledge gained in previous assignments, helping students progress steadily from basic drawing skills to more advanced figurative work.
