Delphin Enroljas, a French painter was born in 1857. In 1882, Delphin vent to the boarding school Notre-Dame-de-France, in Puy-en-Velay where studied three years. Later on he studied painting at the École de dessin de la ville de Paris under the watercolourist Gaston Gérard. He was also studying under Jean-Léon Gérôme, renowned art teacher at the Beaux-Arts, as well as Pascal-Adolphe-Jean Dagnan-Bouveret. After graduation, he was offered an art teacher position, which he turned down to pursue his own creative career. In the beginning of his career, he painted some landscapes, however, in the 1890's, when he moved to Midi, he started painting in oil, watercolor and drawing in pastel intimate portraits of women.
From 1890 and onwards, Delphin Enjolras exhibited his works of art at the Paris Salon. In 1901, he joined the Société des Artistes Français and exhibited at the Salon of this Society as well. His unique style of depicting rich colors, reflected lights and glowing figures brought him success and fame in France and overseas. Delphin Enjolras' numerous artworks are done in the French academic style and feature young ladies, usually indoors, illuminated by lamplight. He is also known as a great painter of nudes. Enjolras' color palette is very recognizable as the majority of his artworks seems to be a continuation of the same genre.
A journalist writing about Enjolras' artwork in 1900 said:
"The compositions of Enjolras, notable for their charm as well as their coloration, grant an impression of freshness and youthfulness which only he can produce, and which are favorable to those who love impeccable forms and beauty."
