Herbert James Draper

Herbert James Draper was born in 1863 in London to a family of a merchant grocer. In the early 1880s, Herbert James enrolled at St John's Wood Art School and thereafter at the Royal Academy Schools. Upon graduation, Draper took an interest in mythology subjects for his paintings and swiftly became one of the greatest late Victorian Neoclassical painters.
In 1898, Herbert's painting "The Lament for Icarus" was acquired by the Chantrey Bequest, former the Tate Gallery.
By the beginning of the 20th century, Herbert James Draper was a well-known artist and exhibited his works of art at the Royal Academy exhibitions.
